Subject: v39 modules, usenet, etc.
-> I converted asm includes v40.13 into Amiga E modules this week-end
-> using IConvert. But I had a lot of problems with A68K/asm include format.
-> I think I fixed them in 95% of the cases, but for the remaining 5%, I can't
-> assure you that the conversion is perfect. Anyway, those problems are local
-> to rarely used modules (like card.m).
Everybody is of course free to use these modules, but I should warn that
this may cause problems when your sources get incompatible to official
Amiga E module distributions. If there really is a big demand for the v39
modules, I'm willing to release the ones I made to aminet prior to the
release of E v3.0. I understand there must be a lot of people wanting to
program with v39, and I never thought it would take me long to get a new
version out. A slight problem is ofcourse the v39 intuition etc library
definitions, since these are in the compiler.
-> > Hello! Has anyone asked about getting an usenet group (just like
-> > i-amiga) so people have two ways of posting/accessing this group. I would
I agree this would be nice.
-> I think the ability to read this list from a newsreader would be good,
-> because I hate having to separate my personal mail from list mail - my
-> mail program should do it for me, but I don't know how to get it to.
well, this specific problem could be solved if only the mailing-list
software prefixed all subjects by something like 'E:'
[...]
-> 1) No other programming language for the amiga has their own newsgroup.
-> i.e. There is no comp.sys.amiga.programmer.c or
someone has got to start. the volume of this list justifies a newsgroup more
than enough. indeed, having our own newsgroup before C would be a bit
weird, but then again should we wait until those C folk realise for
themselves they want a newsgroup?
-> 2) The reason mailing lists exist is to provide a high quality (low noise)
-> content and I think that making this newsgroup would defy this purpose.
what you forget is that with a newsreader, its easier to 'ignore' the
noise of a group. Also, somebody could act as moderator, atleast for
those who want to read it by mail.
-> Also, consider how many people use E in comparison to C users. Why should
-> we make this group (and make everybody have a copy of it in their news
-> areas) when only a select group of people use it? One might argue that
well, >90% of all newsgroups are quite a bit smaller than the E one would
be. And don't underestimate the growing #of people with atleast some interest
in E (but not enough to get on the list). If we don't want to be at war with
the C users, it would be a good idea to propose a split of c.s.a.programmer
for the main programming languages at once, i.e. C, C++, E, Asm...
-> this would be great advertising, but I don't think we want to advertise E
I don't think advertising is the point here.
[...]
-> I HAVE A BIG SUGGESTION FOR E 3.0!!! Wouter should make a runtime library
-> (the E.library) with some features available to us like debugging. It would
could you explain this idea to me further (in a private mail, maybe?).

Subject: Re: 1 or 2 beginner questions
Myk,
Please do us and yourself the following favors:
1. Read ALL of the E docs that came in the package. I know that 1 or 2
of your questions can be solved that way.
2. Get the RKMs (just the Library and Devices should do) and those will
answer the rest of your questions.
3. The autodocs would be extrememely helpful also, but you can get by
with the two RKMs mentioned above.
This may not seem helpful, but it is. There is no substitute for getting
your information straight from the source. All the examples off the net
you can get aren't worth those two RKMs. This is especially true if you
plan on producing quality software.
